The Alien Circus Project


I have been talking about The Alien Circus Project in very literal terms.  I think I do this for my own amusement.  That said while the idea geminates in my head I run these crazy story lines.  It is not all fantasy.  Most of the references come from my life experience.  Calling the Aliens the Ricardo's is taken from my cousin Ricardo who was in Connecticut for a visit from Argentina.  He was always smiling with a very positive attitude and everything was no problem.  That is why the faces have the frozen smile, and the family is called the Ricardo's, they are also tourists as was my cousin.  The project is an interactive piece.  The interaction with the public and surrounding environment, a give and take.  The project is more about observation and perception.  It is about life in the streets and everyday people.  What do we understand about the richness of our lives.  The installations being an image and/or reenactment of everyday events.

The nuts and bolts of it are five members in a family with their dog, all sharing the same face including the dog.  Literally they are aliens from a far away planet, observing what goes on in a strange new world.  As any alien coming to a new land cultural differences can sometimes be overwhelming if not shocking, but there can be joy with new friends and new discoveries.  Their form is constructed puppet like so they can be manipulated for their interactions, posing from time to time.

Trips with them to various venues will all be photographed and possibly filmed in some fashion, stop action being considered.  At some point in the future all of this will be put together in some form of presentation.

The two faces on yellow stars in the photo are from a group of nine installed at the Bethel Ct. Post Office.  The title of this installation is Customer Parking.  The face used here represents the face in The Alien Circus Project described above.  This installation Customer Parking, Portrait of Ricardo, and Where Do Clowns Come From are parts of the overall Project.
